What is the cost of a new boiler?

new boiler installation

The Cost of a new boiler can vary massively depending on what you are looking for and if it is a like for like swap or a conversion from one type of system to another. First of all we would need to understand what you are looking to achieve, do you want a new boiler with a long warranty or is the cost of the new boiler more important to you? On all new boiler installations we would always recommend fitting a magnetic filter to help control the water quality. The 3 boilers we currently recommend depending on budget are below all of these have stainless steel heat exchangers and brass hydro blocks whereas some boilers have aluminium heat exchangers and composite (plastic) hydro blocks which are prone to leaks. Even Worcester Bosch boilers are aluminium heat exchangers and composite hydro blocks so in my opinion Worcester Bosch are well marketed budget boilers at premium rates.

A Vaillant EcoTEC Plus 825 Combi, is a high end boiler and comes with 10 year manufactures warranty. Installed in the same place as an old combi, with a Vaillant protection kit (filter)  would cost around £2500

A Baxi 825 combi boiler, is a mid range range boiler and comes with a 10 year manufactures warranty.  Installed in the same place as an old combi, with a magnetic filter would cost around £2000

A Main eco Compact 25KW combi, is a budget range boiler and therefore comes with a 5 year manufactures warranty. Installed in the same place as an old combi, with a magnetic filter and on existing controls would cost around £1600

The above are just a few examples of the cost of a new combi boiler, there are also a lot of prices in between so let us know your budget for your boiler and I’m sure we can provide something that will fit your budget but more importantly will last.

All new boilers need to comply with Boiler plus so if you have old controls these may also need to be upgraded. Boiler plus basically means you need to be able to control both the time your heating comes on and off AND the temperature of the room. A new combi boiler must also have one of the following; Weather compensation, load compensation, flue gas heat recovery or smart controls with automation and optimisation functions.

Average cost of a new boiler

Based on the above, the cost of a new combi boiler is between £1600 and £2500

A heat only boiler will cost between £1400 and £2200 and come with 2-10 year warranty (if you have a cylinder and a pump external to the boiler you will need a heat only boiler)

A System boiler will cost between £1500 and £2200 and come with a 2 -10 year warranty (if you have a cylinder but no external pump you will need a system boiler)

Converting from one system to another or moving the location of the boiler is likely to add anything from £500 to £1500 depending on how much work is involved in the conversion or moving of the new boiler.

A back boiler conversion to a combi, we are doing one in the next couple of weeks for £3500 but this can go up to as much as £5000 depending on the work involved

A final note on your new boiler

We would always recommended a powerflush when fitting a new boiler as this can massively effect the warranty. It is very important to keep on top of the water quality within your heating system once the new boiler is installed. Inhibitor levels should be topped up, and the boiler should be serviced regularly to keep the boiler going for years to come.
