We all need a plumber and a heating engineer at various times in our lives and, when we do, we want to be able to call on a team we can trust to be reliable, to get to us quickly and do a great job at a decent price. We also want it to be someone who we’re comfortable welcoming into our home.

Here is an overview of the main services customers need us for.


General plumbing

This area of our service covers all water-related appliances in your home – changing taps, fixing or replacing toilets and showers, installing baths, basins and sinks, and turning our hand to anything else you need us to do for you.

Boiler installation

You may be looking for a new boiler because your boiler is old and therefore not running efficiently, which means it’ll be much more costly to run than a new boiler would be. Or, your boiler may have broken down and repairing it isn’t going to be worthwhile – what we class as ‘beyond economical repair’, and it’s more practical and cost-effective to change your boiler.

How long does a boiler installation take? If it’s a like for like boiler then it can normally be done within one day, or a maximum of a day and a half. If it’s a conversion from an old system to a combi boiler, for example, it could take two or three days from start to finish.

We are happy to help you to choose a new boiler. It can be hard to know which to pick from the many options you’ll see available. Our experience and technical knowledge mean that we can help you to decide on the right boiler for your circumstances. Our recommendation will depend on the type of boiler that’s right for you, and the best you can get for your budget. If a combi or system boiler is right for you, we would recommend one that has a stainless steel heat exchanger and brass hydroblocks, rather than the cheaper, lower quality aluminium and plastic alternatives.


The process for getting a new boiler is that you first give us a call or send us an email. Then, we’ll pop round to have a look at your boiler, do a survey and put a quote together. We have to visit before we can give you a quote, as every property is different. Depending on how quickly you need it – obviously we prioritise situations where the boiler has been condemned or isn’t working at all, we can usually fit you in within a day or two. If it’s less urgent, and you have a working boiler but are updating it for a more energy-efficient model, we can generally do this for you within a week or two.


Boiler servicing

A boiler service is an in-depth check that makes sure your boiler is running efficiently. 

As well as checking that it’s operating properly, we also check for any minor water leaks or gas leaks which could become an issue in the future, and we check that the combustion of the appliance is running within the manufacturer’s stated tolerances. 

You must get your boiler serviced every year.

We are often asked “How does a service help my boiler warranty?”. We always answer that it’s absolutely essential! If you don’t have your boiler serviced annually, and you call out the boiler manufacturer, they will check if it’s been serviced within the past 12 months and, if it hasn’t, your warranty is void and you’ll have to pay the full cost of any repair. Maintaining your warranty is even more important now that most boilers come with a 10-year warranty. So, within that 10-year period, your boiler manufacturer will fix anything without further charge, as long as it’s been serviced.

At JPS Plumbing, Gas and Electrical, we try to get all our customers’ boiler services carried out during the summer months, giving us as much time as possible to quickly respond to breakdowns during the winter months, which are much more common then.

Landlord Gas Safety Certificate

A gas safety certificate (LGSC) is a legal requirement safety check that all landlords must adhere to, to prove that the gas appliances in their rental properties are safe. Like an MOT on a car, it focuses on whether the appliances are safe, rather than whether there’s anything not working properly. 


Emergency plumber call-outs

We get called out for all sorts of plumbing emergencies but, usually, it will be a leak coming through a ceiling, or someone returning home to a flooded house. Other emergencies could be a toilet not flushing, or your boiler breaking down in the middle of a cold winter, when being without heating is very uncomfortable for most people.

Of course, when you have an emergency, you need your plumber to respond as quickly as possible. 

We understand that and do our best to get to you as soon as possible – within an hour or two if you’ve got water coming through the ceiling, and usually on the same day for other emergencies. 

We cover emergency call-outs across Winchester, Southampton, Andover, Basingstoke and all the surrounding areas.

A lot of plumbers focus on installations rather than ‘responsive maintenance’, whereas our customers know that we provide a quick and efficient emergency call-out service. That’s why they come to us first.
